PA Title Transfer Requirements
A Pennsylvania title transfer is required whenever vehicle ownership changes hands.
Important: You must complete your title transfer within 20 days of the sale.
Required Documents
- Valid photo ID (driver's license or state ID)
- Current vehicle title (signed by seller)
- Proof of PA vehicle insurance
- Payment for fees and taxes
Standard Fees
- $72 title transfer fee
- 6% sales tax on purchase price
- $48/year registration (if needed)
Note: Sales tax is 7% in Allegheny County and 8% in Philadelphia. PennDOT fees per MV-70S (rev. 4-26), checked August 2026. Subject to change.
Selling Your Car?
