Fee Questions We Hear Daily

How much does it cost to transfer a car title in PA?

The PennDOT title fee is $72. Add 6% sales tax on the purchase price (7% in Allegheny County, 8% in Philadelphia) and $48 for a year of registration if you need plates. On a $10,000 car in most PA counties, the PennDOT portion comes to $720, plus our service fee.

How much are tags and title in PA?

For a typical passenger vehicle: $72 title fee plus $48 annual registration, which includes standard plates on first issuance. Sales tax applies on top when the vehicle changes owners.

How much is PA registration renewal?

$48 per year for passenger vehicles, or $96 for two years. Electric vehicles also pay PA's Road User Charge of $250 per year starting in 2026 ($63 for plug-in hybrids).

Where do these fee numbers come from?

PennDOT's official Bureau of Motor Vehicles Schedule of Fees, form MV-70S (revision 4-26). We check it against our pages and note the date at the top of this page. PennDOT sets these fees; our service fee is separate and quoted before we process anything.
